3 former student leaders join Cong

GUWAHATI, Jan 12 - Three former leaders of the All Tai Ahom Students� Union (ATASU), Bengalee Yuba Chatra Federation (BYCF) and All Guwahati Students� Union (AGSU) joined the Congress at a function held with Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Anjan Dutta in the chair and in the presence of Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi at the Rajiv Bhawan here today, with their followers, said an APCC press release here.

The leaders included former ATASU president Pranjal Rajkonwar, former BYCF president Sukumar Biswas and former AGSU president and former Gauhati University (GU) Post Graduate Students� Union (PGSU) general secretary as well, Kanak Talukdar.

Addressing the function, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said that the genuine Congressmen stick to the Congress and they do not resort to any betrayal. In his presidential address, Anjan Dutta said that MLAs and senior leaders of several Opposition parties have been contacting the Congress, expressing their willingness to join it. However, the Congress is not going to induct any Opposition leader or MLA with the assurance of a party ticket in the ensuing Assembly elections.
