IMPHAL, March 13 - Candidates of the BJP, the Naga Peoples Front (NPF) and the Congress today filed nomination papers for the lone Rajya Sabha seat in Manipur.

The BJP has fielded Manipurs titular king, Leishemba Sanajaoba, as its candidate for the Rajya Sabha election. NPF Manipur State general secretary Honreikhui Kashung is the partys nominee, while T Mangibabu is the candidate of the Congress.

The Rajya Sabha election is scheduled on March 26.

In Manipur, the Rajya Sabha member is to be elected by 60 MLAs of the Manipur Legislative Assembly. Even though the Congress emerged as the single largest party by winning 28 seats in the last Assembly polls held in 2017, the BJP, which won 21 seats, formed the present coalition Government.
