3 Enforcement officials held

By STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, March 31 - The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) today arrested three enforcement officials in connection with the illegal coal syndicate operating in the State.

The arrested officials are Enforcement Inspector Chitra Kumar Nath, Enforcement checkers Madhab Neog and Mrigendra Sarma.

They will be produced before the court tomorrow, CID sources told this reporter.

The trio was summoned by the CID today at the CID headquarters after which they were arrested. The accused are charged of facilitating illegal transport of coal in the State without following the specified rules.

The CID had recently summoned 6 enforcement officials in connection with the illegal coal trade. The other three are currently on interim bail.

Sources told this reporter that the investigators have laid hands on enough evidence suggesting that some of the enforcement officials clearly violated the standard norm related to inspection at check gates, thereby abetting the crime.

We are continuing with the investigation and more such arrests, including some senior officials, cannot be ruled out, sources added.
