3 dead, 32 injured in Karimganj bus mishap

SILCHAR, June 29 - Three persons including two women died and 32 others were seriously injured in a bus accident at Deolakhal area under Patharkandi constituency of Karimganj district today.

The dead women were identified as Jayanti Rudra Paul, aged around 50 years and Mayarun Nessa (54), sources informed. A 12-yer-old boy, Sakir Hussain, was also among the dead.

Sources said that the incident took place at around 3 pm when the bus on its way from Silchar overturned on National Highway-8 while allegedly overtaking another vehicle. Locals of the vicinity rushed to rescue the injured victims and sent them to the Karimganj Civil Hospital. Hospital sources informed that among the injured are 12 women and a one-month old minor. While seven cases have been referred to the Silchar Medical College and Hospital, three patients were discharged after preliminary treatment.

Meanwhile, Patharkandi MLA Krishnendu Paul rushed to the spot and has asked the Civil Hospital authorities to treat the injured persons.
