3-day State conference of CPI-M in Guwahati from Feb 4

GUWAHATI, Jan 18 - The 12th State Conference of the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) would be held with a three-day programme here from February 4.

The open session of the conference will be held at the Sonaram Higher Secondary School playground at 11 am. Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar and CPI-M politbureau members Biman Basu and SR Pillai, among others, will address the session.

The CPI-M State Committee, in a statement issued here today said that the conference is expected to adopt resolutions to unite the people against the communal forces and also to pave the way for a left-democratic alternative.

As a prelude to the conference, sports competitions, seminars, screening of films and performance by artistes, etc, have been organised. As part of these warm-up programmes, CPI-M politbureau member Brinda Karat will speak at a seminar scheduled to be held at 4 pm of January 27 at the Lakhiram Baruah Sadan on the topic of �Communalism and the present-day India,� said the CPI-M State Committee.
