GUWAHATI, Feb 7 - Royal Global University�s 11th edition �Consensio 2020� began today on the university premises with the theme �Desi Gulliyan�, said a press release.
Chief guest of the occasion Prof Dipika Deka, Vice Chancellor, Srimanta Sankardeva University of Health Sciences, inaugurated the event along with guests of honour, seasoned mountaineer Anshu Jamsenpa and acclaimed singer, composer and music director Tarali Sarma.
Mao Subong and Arenla Subong, members of Abiogenesis, a rock-fusion band from Nagaland, were also accorded a warm welcome at the inaugural ceremony along with other dignitaries.
Abiogenesis, which has received the National Award for innovation and was a nominee for the 58th Grammy Awards, performed at the inaugural ceremony and was conferred the title �Pride of North- East� by RGU for their contributions and achievements in music by blending indigenous and tribal sounds with a modern fusion, for their innovation of the musical tool �BamHum�, as well as for their form of music �Howey�.
An eclectic cultural extravaganza of traditional dance performances was showcased by the students of RGU.
In her speech chief guest Prof Deka inspired the student community to raise the standards of their universities with the help of research and publications.
Tough competitions marked day one of the three-day event, the release said. On Saturday singing sensation Monali Thakur will be performing in her first ever concert in the North East.
Some of the major highlights of the event during the remaining two days would be �Urjaa� involving the business school competitions, �Art Beats� involving fine art events and �Fest-o-Fiesta� consisting of the performing art events.
The event which is expected to see a footfall of over 50,000, will conclude on February 9, the release added.
