3-day blood donation camp at GMCH

GUWAHATI, May 6 - The Junior Doctors Association of GMCH and Asom Thalassaemia Society are organising a blood donation camp on May 6, 7 and 8 at GMCH.

In the wake of the COVID-19 outbreak and the subsequent lockdown, there are people in need of regular medical assistance. Especially the transfusion-dependent thalassemics who require a regular supply of fresh blood transfusion every 15-30 days. The already burdened blood banks are running dry due to the shortage of voluntary donors coming in to make donations, the society said in a release, requesting interested persons to participate in the camp.

Pijush Hazarika, Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare inaugurated the event as chief guest along with other dignitaries and urged the JDA to continue with the blood donation campaign in the future as well.

Dr Anup Kumar Barman, Director of Medical Education; Dr Ratna K Talukdar, Principal-cum-Chief Superintendent, GMCH; Dr Ramen Talukdar, Superintendent, GMCH; Dr Tirtha Chaliha, in-charge, Model Blood Bank and Dr Jina Bhattacharya, HoD, Dept of Haematology were among the distinguished guests present on the occasion.

Archana Borthakur, founder of NGO Dinabandhu also attended the function and promised to collaborate with the JDA, GMCH in their activities.
