GUWAHATI, July 26 - Three policemen, including two sub-inspectors and a home guard, have been arrested on charges of stealing Rs 20 lakh.
An official source said the Hatigaon Police Station�s sub-inspectors Pranjal Bora and John Pathori, Dispur police station�s home guard Bipul Hazarika and their accomplice Prakash Sonar have been taken into custody after they stole Rs 20 lakh belonging to a Mizo family from a vehicle.
�Sonar had married a Mizo girl and later left her. In that connection, he knew the Mizo family. He and Bipul Hazarika planned the theft and roped in the two sub-inspectors,� said a police official.
Sonar had accompanied the Mizo family late last evening. They were carrying Rs 20 lakh in cash.
�At Khanapara, they had got down for some purpose. During this time, the bag was taken away,� the official said. Police have recovered the stolen money.
In May this year, four policemen were arrested on charges of harassing and extorting two youths on the Bhagagarh-Kahilipara hill route last night.
