3 child labourers rescued from Sonapur brick kiln

By Correspondent

JORABAT, Dec 11 - In an operation conducted by the Sonapur Circle Officer along with Sonapur police and Sonapur forest range office, three children employed as labourers were rescued from a brick kiln today.

Following specific information, Sonapur Circle Officer Jenifer Yasmin Choudhury along with her team raided the Leo Bricks Industry at Samata-Pathar near Sonapur and rescued the three children employed there, while a few others managed to run away.

The children have been handed over to the Child Welfare Committee.

The Circle Officer told this correspondent that operations would continue to put an end to child labour in the region.

It may be mentioned that in the last one year, many child and bonded labourers have been rescued from different brick kilns of the Dimoria region, but the kiln owners still continue to employ child labourers.

A dumper-truck and an earth mover were also seized by a team of Sonapur Forest Range Office from the same kiln for illegal earth-cutting work carried out by the kiln authorities.

Meanwhile, Circle Officer Choudhury has asked the owner of Leo Bricks Industry to produce all the relevant documents on December 14, threatening to seize the kiln if the order is not complied with.
