3 child labourers rescued at Mangaldai

MANGALDAI, July 1 - Disseminating a strong message against the dishonest owners of different commercial establishments including brick kilns, motor garage etc., who illegally engage child workers against very low wages for their own personal gain, the District Child Protection Department, Darrang with the support of District Level Task Force has carried out drives against child labour in the district.

In one such drive on June 25 last, three child labourers were rescued from a cement brick manufacturing unit located at Chapai near Mangaldai town. According to sources of the district Child Protection department, the operational team consisting of District Child Protection Officer, Kobendra Warisha, Chairperson District Child Welfare Committee, Rajen Chandra Das, Deputy Superintendent of Police (HQ) Mamoni Hazarika, Protection Officer Pallabi Sarma, Legal cum Probation Officer (i/c) Dulal Chandra Deka and staff from the district Labour department rescued the three child labourers from M/S Devi Industries.

Later, all the three children were handed over to their respective parents in presence of the members of Child Welfare Committee following verification of their age proof documents. Necessary process for rehabilitation of the victims has been reported. The team during their day-long drive also stated to have distributed anti child labour awareness leaflets and posters.
