3 arrested in Silchar

SILCHAR, Aug 10 - A Silchar court today remanded three persons, including two women to two-day police custody after they were arrested by Cachar police on Thursday for allegedly running a sex racket in the city.

Interestingly, the arrests were made following a number of FIRs lodged by two women who were once part of the racket, but managed to escape. According to them, top politicians and businessmen are their customers at a house in Pushpa Bihar lane of Meherpur locality where the flesh trade business thrived.

According to police, those arrested include Izafa Mazumder, the kingpin of the racket, Rupak Roy and Bulti Roy, who are allegedly involved in the business.

On the other hand, Cachar SP Rakesh Roushan said, �after the court trial, the accused have been sent on police remand and we are carrying out investigation. Two more persons involved in the trade shall also be arrested soon.�

Asked whether this is an inter-State sex racket, the SP said that police is interrogating the accused for further clues.

Incidentally, the two women who fled from the racket informed the police that they faced life threats and sought police intervention to nab others involved in the business.
