2nd COVID-19 case confirmed in Manipur

IMPHAL, April 2 - Manipur today recorded the second positive case of COVID-19 as a person who had attended the Tablighi Jamaat congregation in New Delhi in the second week of March, tested positive for the dreaded virus. As many as 10 persons from the State had participated in the religious meet held at Nizamuddin Markaz.

This is the second confirmed case of COVID-19 in the State, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh said. As a precautionary measure, the State Government has already started the process of tracking the movements and contacts of the infected person. All the family members of the COVID-19 patient have been sent to the quarantine centre at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences in Imphal, he added.

The first confirmed case of COVID-19 was reported in Manipur on March 24 after a person who had returned from the United Kingdom, tested positive. That was also the first COVID-19 case recorded in the entire North East.
