HAILAKANDI, March 23 - At least 296 persons have been put under home quarantine in Hailakandi district.

Health department authorities revealed that of the total 296 persons, 141 have been identified and quarantined at home on Monday alone. Over 199 surveillance teams have fanned out to different parts of the district to contain the spread of the disease.

The district administration has asked people who have come from COVID-19 affected States to Hailakandi during the past 15 to 20 days to report forthwith to the nearest health centre or police station failing which punitive action will be taken against such persons as per 270 IPC for concealing information and other relevant laws.

Screening is being done at the entry points by health, police and transport department personnel.

Undertaking is being sought from the persons quarantined at home that they would not venture out of home or else legal action would be taken against them. The administration has appealed to the people to report to the nearest police station immediately if any person kept in home isolation steps out of their homes.

Joint Director, Health Services, Dr RC Dwivedy said the Health department has started the process of stamping persons quarantined at home on the left hand.

The administration has designated some buildings as quarantine facility together with a separate isolation ward at the civil hospital.

In a bid to minimise social contacts to prevent spread of the contagious disease, the administration has prohibited individuals, organisations, NGOs and clubs from entering the hospital premises.
