28 organisations back people of Dima Hasao

HAFLONG, Jan 29 - With an intention to take stock of the situation in Dima Hasao and to express solidarity with the people, a team comprising 28 organisations of Assam under the leadership of AASU Adviser Samujjal Bhattacharya met the people at Maibang today and assured that they are with the people of Dima Hasao.

Apart from the AASU Adviser, the team comprised of Pramod Boro, President_of All_Bodo_Students�_Union, Prafulla_Hapila, Adviser of All Dimasa Students� Union, Nobin Johori, President of All Dimasa Students� Union, Roton Kachari, President of All Assam Sonowal Kachari_ Students� Union, Sanjib Kumar Hajong, President of All Assam Hajong Students� Union, Prahlad Musrong, Adviser of All AssamTiwa Students� Union, Hafijul Ahmed, President of Goriya-Moriya Deshi Jatiya Parishad, Mukunda Madahi, general secretary of All Assam Madahi Janajati Sanmilan, Dharmendra Deori of Tribal Sangha, and Pobitro Nunisa, President of All Dimasa Students� Union, Karbi Anglong district committee.

In this connection, a public meeting was held with JL Jidung, former Executive Member of NCHAC in the chair, while Samujjal Bhattacharya attended as the chief guest.

Bhattacharya condemned the brutal police firing on the protesters who were agitating to safeguard their motherland on January 25 at Maibang, wherein two youths died after having been fired upon, while several others sustained bullet injuries. He said the Government should take the responsibility of treatment of those injured, or else they would take the responsibility. He categorically invited the Government to disclose the contents of the Naga Agreement immediately and said that they would not let any part of Assam be included in the proposed Nagalim.

He also urged the Government to clarify its stand on the Nagalim issue before the citizens of Assam as well as of Dima Hasao district. Further, he reiterated that the entire populace of Assam is with the people of Dima Hasao, and that they should not feel they are alone.
