28 new cases in Meghalaya

SHILLONG, July 15 - Twenty-eight COVID-19 positive cases have been reported in Meghalaya in the past 24 hours and most of these cases occurred among Border Security Force (BSF) personnel.

Health Minister AL Hek said that out of the 28 new cases, 19 are from the BSF and the rest are from other armed forces.

Meanwhile, with the recovery of one person, the total active cases in the State now stand at 297. The total recoveries are 47 and there have been two deaths.

As many as 198 BSF personnel are among the 297 active cases. The district-wise distribution of positive cases is East Khasi Hills 261, Ri- Bhoi 22, East Jaintia Hills 2, West Garo Hills 8, South Garo Hills 2, East Garo Hills 1 and North Garo Hills 1.

Meanwhile, Meghalaya Health authorities today conducted random tests at Umpling here. Other places close to the BSF frontier headquarters � Mawpat, Nongmynsong, Langkyrding � will also witness random testing on Thursday.

Random testing has also been conducted between 13th Mile and 19th Mile at Khanapara. However, no positive cases have been detected during the tests.

Earlier, during a walk-in interview in Ri-Bhoi district, a candidate was found positive. Thereafter, the Deputy Commissioner has instructed all those who attended the interview to quarantine themselves for 14 days.
