BARPETA, Dec 26 - The 27th National Rangghar Theatre Festival will be held here with a three-day-long programme from December 29 to 31. The festival this year has been dedicated to Mathuradas Burha Ata, the first Satradhikar of historic Barpeta Satra on the occasion of his 525th birth anniversary. Several theatre groups of national repute are likely to participate in the festival.
As per schedule, the festival will commence with the hoisting of the flag by Jyotiprasad Das, director of the festival at 9 am on December 29. The inaugural festival to be held at 4:30 pm that day will be inaugurated by noted film director and dramatist Munin Baruah. Tribute to Mathuradas Burha Ata will be paid in association with the Sakha Satra Samaj of Barpeta Satra which will be opened by Ratan Saud, chief executive director of the festival.
Parampara Prabah, Guwahati will perform Mandodari Pusaha Ravana and Banshi Sanbad directed by Dr Mallika Kandali at 6:15 pm on the inaugural day. Basabdatta, a play written by Gunakar Deva Goswami based on Abhisar � a poem by Rabindra Nath Tagore and directed by Seujpriya Goswami will be performed by Purbaranga, Guwahati at 7 pm the same day.
A part of the famous novel by Dr Laksmi Nandan Bora Gati Mati Bhakati, based on the life of Mathuradas Burha Ata, will be staged by Rangghar, Barpeta which will be directed by Jyotiprasad Das at 5:30 pm on December 30. A play by Mahesh Elkunchwar Atmakatha directed by Binay Sarma will be staged by Padatik Theatre, Kolkata at 6 pm that day.
A play written by eminent playwright Vijay Tendulkar and directed by Dr Tanuja Bora will be performed by Saishab, a theatre group from Sivasagar at 5.30 pm on December 31, the concluding day of the festival.
The Indian Mime Theatre, Kolkata will exhibit a puppet drama titled Ma Lakshmi Putala Nas Party, which is written and directed by Niranjan Goswami. The festival will conclude with a special item of mime show by Padmashri Niranjan Goswami at 7 pm that day.
Rangghar Theatre Festival has been well acclaimed by the people of Barpeta. Overwhelming response from theatre groups and the audience alike has given the festival an extra impetus. The organisers expect a similar response this time also and request the people to help and co-operate for its success.
