27 shops gutted in Pasighat market fire

ITANAGAR, May 12 - Altogether 27 shops were gutted in a devastating fire accident last night at Pasighat in East Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh.

The fire that broke out at Pasighat market last midnight engulfed 27 shops, including three arms and ammunition shops, resulting in loss of properties worth several lakhs of rupees. Eight shops were partially damaged and nine others had to be vacated, said an official here today.

There was, however, no report of any casualty. The cause of the blaze was yet to be ascertained. Four fire tenders, including one from neighbouring Assam�s Jonai and another from the Air Force doused the raging fire. The cause of the fire is being investigated, the official said.

East Siang DC Isha Khosla along with District Disaster Management Officer Genden Tsomu rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation. Immediate relief to the fire victims was distributed by the district administration.
