27 more infected with COVID-19 in Tripura

AGARTALA, June 12 - The total number of active COVID-19 cases in Tripura climbed to 685 after 27 new cases were detected in the State in the past 24 hours.

Of the new cases, 18 had tested positive last night and nine this morning.

�Out of 120 samples tested this morning for #COVID19, 09 Cases found #POSITIVE. All of them have travel history. The count includes: Train Passengers: 07, Flight Passenger: 01 and 1 contact person,� Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, who also holds the Health portfolio, posted on his Facebook page today.

As of now, 10,551 persons have been put under surveillance in the State, including 695 in institutional quarantine and 9,856 in home quarantine.

In Tripura, one person has died from COVID-19 at the GB Pant Hospital here, while another committed suicide after diagnosed with the disease.

With COVID-19 cases spiralling, the Chief Minister today reviewed the situation in the State in a meeting with Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar, Additional Chief Secretary SK Rakesh and other senior officials.

In the meeting, the Chief Minister took stock of district-wise cases of COVID-19. The maximum number of positive cases has been reported from Sepahijala district.

There have been reports that a section of people in the district are not maintaining the COVID-19 guidelines, including people who are under quarantine.

As the situation appears to be grim in some areas of Sepahijala, the Government is planning to declare more places as containment zones to check the spread of the dreaded virus.

Till date, 29 areas of the State have been declared as containment zones.
