By Correspondent

IMPHAL, May 3 Around 27 houses in a village were torched by the residents of a neighbouring village following a land dispute in Manipur today. However, there was no report of any casualty.

The incident took place when a group of villagers of Saijang, armed with sticks and sharp weapons, came to Sailen village, about 31 km north of Imphal under Lamlai PS and burnt down the houses by pouring petrol on them around 10.30 am. Though both the villages are under the Lamlai PS, Saijang is situated in Imphal East district while Sailen lies in Senapati district.

A Manipur Fire Service team along with State Police force led by SP Angam Kamei of Imphal East district police rushed to the area and controlled the situation.

A senior police officer said that security would be tightened. So far five persons have been arrested in connection with the incident, he added.
