2582 file papers in Sonitpur dist

TEZPUR, Nov 16 - Altogether 2582 candidates have filed nominations for various posts of panchayat polls in Sonitpur district. Till Thursday evening, 64 nominations were received for ZPC candidates, 228 for AP members, 264 for GP president seats and as many as 2026 papers for GP member seats. The scrutiny will be done on November 19.

Meanwhile, electioneering is gaining momentum as the political parties are now adopting new strategies to woo voters. After the process of filing of nomination papers on Thursday evening, the supporters of the political parties were seen busy with their candidates. Meetings are being conducted in every nook and corner.

Though the zilla parishad, anchalik parishad as well as the gaon panchayats were with the Congress, but the people�s annoyance is that they couldn�t benefit due to the rampant corruption by the panchayat workers. Talking to this correspondent, Dhekiajuli MLA, Ashok Kumar Singhal, said that people of Sonitpur district have failed to witness proper devlopment due to alleged misappropriation of funds and discrimination in executing developmental works. �So now they want a change at the grass-root level and it has been felt it will only be possible through the BJP,� he said.
