25 in fray for Patacharkuchi civic polls

PATACHARKUCHI, Feb 5 � Altogether 25 candidates representing various political parties, including Independents, are in the fray for the election to the Patacharkuchi Town Committee under the Bajali subdivision of Barpeta district. Earlier, 27 candidates had filed papers for the election. But on the last day of withdrawal, two Independent candidates of Ward No. 3 withdrew their papers. They were Lokendra Sarma and Allauddin Ahmad.

Out of the total remaining candidates, six each are from the BJP and the Congress, five from the AGP and one from the CPI (M). There are seven Independent candidates. The Congress and the BJP have fielded candidates in all the six wards, while the AGP has put up candidates in all wards except Ward No. 4. The CPI (M) has fielded its candidate in Ward No. 4 alone. Meanwhile, electioneering has gained momentum here.
