25 Bangladeshi nationals released from Dhubri dist jail

DHUBRI, Sept 4 - Twenty-five Bangladeshi nationals, who were detained in Dhubri district jail since May 6, were released from the jail recently after an order passed by the Bilasipara Sub-Divisional Court.

It may be mentioned here that a delegation from Bangladesh High Commission visited Dhubri on a two-day tour in June in order to meet the 26 nationals from the neighbouring country, who were apprehended by Dhubri police on May 3 for visiting the district without proper documentation amid the nationwide lockdown. Out of these 26 nationals, one died while serving in the jail.

Police informed that these 26 Bangladeshi nationals who worked as fishermen in the Jorhat and Sivasagar districts of Assam borrowed vehicles from Jorhat�s Kokilamukh Brahmaputra Ghat, in order to visit their country during the lockdown period and on May 3 they were stopped at Bahalpur area under Chapar PS of Dhubri district and since then they have been detained in Dhubri jail.

A case was registered against them in Chapar Police Station under the Foreigner�s Act, and since then they were serving in the Dhubri district jail. As per the order by the Bilasipara Sub-Divisional Court, they were released on Wednesday and sent to their country via Changrabandha in West Bengal, informed jail authorities.
