24th foundation day of Sahitya Sabha unit

GUWAHATI, Dec 1 - The 24th foundation day of the Brihattar Panjabari Sahitya Sabha (BPSS) was held on Tuesday on the premises of the Bagharbori High School.

The function began with the unfurling of 24 flags of the Asam Sahitya Sabha (ASS). Unfurling the main flag, senior journalist DN Chakravartty who was the founder president of the BPSS paid tributes to Sahityarathi lakshminath Bezbaroa, Padmanath Gohain Baruah, Chandradhar Baruah, Krishna Kanta Handiqui, Dr Maheswar Neog, Dimbeswar Neog, and said that Assam Sahitya Sabha has a unique place of honour as the largest literary organisation of the entire world.

Chakravartty mentioned the contributions of great writers and thinkers of ASS as the central place of literary and cultural thinking of the modern Assamese society. He also remembered the founder members of the BPSS including Prafulla Chandra Baruah, Dhiren Talukdar, Biren Patowary, Dr Bijoyananda Baruah, Tarini Charan Baruah, Santiram Kalita and Seraful Hussain who nurtured the infant organisation to grow up in to a large society attracting the attention of the entire State.

Presiding over the meeting the president of the BPSS, Dr Bhabendra Nath Deva Sarma said that it was a matter of pride that the BPSS had got recognition as one of the best organisations of the ASS.

Persons like great scholar and writer Dr Jogendra Narayan Bhuyan and Prafulla Chandra Baruah were the pioneers of this organisation.

Urmila Chakrabartty and Surendra Mohan Mahanta, both former presidents of BPSS spoke about the commendable activities of the BPSS.

Special functions of �Kuhi� for children and �Aakash� for women were held in which the former administrator of the Bagharbori High School Jinnat Ara Begum, and the present administrator of the high school Jasmin Ahmed also spoke on the occasion. A book of poems by Malabika Barthakur was also released on the occasion.
