GUWAHATI, June 4 - In an effort to promote self-reliance among differently-abled children and also ensure their overall development, Sachitraputhi Sanskritic Gosthi (SSG) has trained 23 children with physical and mental disability in the field of drama, acting in front of camera, dance, music, yoga and recitation.
The initiative, taken under the Dibyango Natya Bidyaloi, is part of a series of special training programmes organised for the benefit of differently-abled children.
�The children with different abilities have immense willpower to overcome all adversities. Their talents need to find a suitable platform,� said Rajiv Kumar Saud, actor, director and trainer of differently-abled children.
The SSG organised a workshop for the students from May 30 to June 1 at the Gauhati Artistes� Guild and Pragati Shilpi Sangha, which was inaugurated by Shyamali Singha, a differently-abled artiste from Tripura.
�Not restricting to the workshop, we want to take things to a more professional level where our disabled artistes are properly trained and find good exposure. The parents of such children often express concern about their future. If we can start a new initiative in the line of the mobile theatre of Assam, it would provide a new dimension to disability-related intervention,� said Saud, who is planning to start a full-fledged drama school in Guwahati.
