21,889 TET teachers appointed

GUWAHATI, July 31 - Altogether 21,889 TET qualified teachers have been given appointment in regular posts in lower and upper primary schools of Assam, barring the districts under the Sixth Schedule, the Legislative Assembly was informed today.

In a written reply to the Assembly, Education Minister Siddhartha Bhattacharya said that advertisement for filling up another 9,635 vacant posts was issued last year but the matter is now pending before the court and a final decision will be taken once the order from the Judiciary comes.

�A total of 90,043 candidates cleared the six TET tests conducted in the State. Of these, 21,889 have been given appointment in regular posts. Another 30,087 TET qualified teachers have been given contractual appointments under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, while 11,447 have been given appointment under the State Pool,� he said.

He said that those working under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan and State Pool can secure regular appointment by applying for vacancies to regular posts under the Directorate of Elementary Education by applying for such vacancies as and when they are announced for filling up.

In a written reply to another question, the minister said that 4,011 TET qualified teachers have got appointment in secondary and higher secondary schools.

Bhattacharya said that 17,888 posts of primary teachers and 17,283 posts of secondary teachers are vacant at present.
