21 seats for UPPL-BJP combine

GUWAHATI, Dec 13 - Marking an end to three successive regimes by the Hagrama Mohilary-led BPF, the UPPL-BJP combine wrested 21 seats in the 40-member Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections.

It narrowly prevailed over the BPF which got 17 seats.

After the poll results were declared, the BJP which captured nine seats extended its formal support to the UPPL to form the council government to be headed by UPPL chief Pramod Boro. It is for the first time that the BTC will be governed by a party other than the BPF since the formation of the BTC in 2003. It also marks the first time that the BTC will be governed by a coalition.

The UPPL emerged victorious in Kachugaon (ST), Chirang Duars (ST), Koklabari (ST), Musalpur (ST), Baganpara (ST), Goibari (ST), Goreswar (ST), Bhergaon (ST), Khaling Duar (ST), Horisinga (ST), Bhairabkunda (ST), Rowta (ST).

Its now-alliance partner BJP won in Fakiragram (Non-ST), Thuribari (Open), Mathanguri (Open), Nagrijuli (Non-ST), Suklai Serfang (ST), Khwirwbari (ST), Nonwi Serfang (ST), Mwdwibari (Open) and Pasnwi Serfang (Non-ST).

The BPF won at Parbatjhora (ST), Guma (Unreserved), Jamduar (ST), Soraibil (ST), Dotma (ST), Banargaon (ST), Debargaon (ST), Baukhungri (ST), Salakati (ST), Chirang (ST), Kalaigaon (ST), Nichima (ST), Manas Serfang (ST) and Sobhaijhar (ST), Darangajuli (ST), Dwhwnsri (ST) and Salbari (ST).

The Congress which had formed a pre-poll alliance with the AIUDF managed to win just one seat at Srirampur (Non-ST) while its partner drew a blank. The Dihira (Open) seat was won by an Independent.
