20th Natasurya drama festival from Aug 1

GUWAHATI, July 26 - The 20th edition of Natasurya�s drama festival that will kick off on August 1, will bring for theatre lovers not only new productions, but also some highly acclaimed plays like Ekjute�s Yeh Hai Bombay Meri Jaan and Chorus Repertory Theatre, Manipur�s Macbeth.

The seven-day fiesta, supported by the Directorate of Cultural Affairs, will be held at Rabindra Bhawan here.

Written and directed by Nadira Zaheer Babbar, Yeh Hai Bombay Meri Jaan, a mix of entertainment and pathos, has been described as an ode to the city by critics. The organisers have kept two shows of the play on August 6, at 5.30 pm and at 7.10 pm.

Macbeth, directed by the renowned Ratan Thiyam, will be presented on August 7 at 7 pm. It has earned rave reviews for its unique presentation and strong message.

�The festival over the years has emerged as a platform for both budding as well as veteran theatre artistes. We always ensure that the plays staged during the festival can provide a unique experience to the theatre lovers,� said Gyasuddin Ahmed, general secretary, Natasurya. Ahmed asserted that the festival had stood out because of the quality of the plays.

Entry is free for the citizens till the fifth day of the festival. Aserenga Rod, directed by Pranjal Saikia and Purnima Pathak Saikia, will be presented on August 1 at 7 pm.

�While selecting the plays we make it a point to select the new productions and those plays that have a strong social message,� said Ahmed, adding that theatre is a reflection of life on stage and there can be no compromise on the quality front.

Upapath, directed by Upakul Bordoloi, will be presented on August 2 at 7 pm. 2200, directed by Prashanta Sarma, will be staged on August 3, Jupurit Jonak, directed by Ashim Krishna Baruah, will be presented on August 4 and Jaatra, directed by Baharul Islam, will be presented on August 5. All the shows are scheduled to begin at 7 pm.
