GUWAHATI, March 18 - Over 200 students in Bengaluru today protested the brutal treatment of an Arunachali student there.

Higio Gungtey, a student from Arunachal Pradesh studying at Christ University was brutally assaulted by his drunken landlord over a trivial matter of water usage on March 6.

The landlord, Hemant Kumar entered Gungteys room abruptly at night, locked the doors and repeatedly hit him for an hour, despite Gungtey bleeding profusely. In doing so, he not only abused Gungtey physically, but caused him severe mental and emotional trauma as well, a statement from the organisers of the protest said.

Following this incident, an FIR had been lodged against Hemant Kumar, but no action was taken against him. It was then that over 200 students came together in front of the steps of the Town Hall in Bengaluru and made their stand. The protesters also made a clarion call to end the alienation of and discrimination against people from the North East in their own country, it said.
