20 test negative for Covid-19 in Manipur

IMPHAL, April 16: Twenty individuals including the 11 close contacts of the Air India pilot who spent three nights from March 17-19 at Imphal after his return from New York, were tested and found Covid-19 negative, according to the spokesperson of the Manipur Health department.

Additional director of the state Health department and spokesperson, Dr Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang said in a press release in Imphal that surveillance over them will continue.

Stating that pharmacies and chemists are allowed to keep their shops open during the lockdown, the release informed that movement of trucks carrying medicines is allowed and regularly monitored by the state government.

The release appealed to the people to contact the Covid-19 common control room at its phone number 1800 345 3818 if any person faces difficulty in purchasing any essential medicines for personal use.

It may be worth mentioning that the first Covid-19 case was reported in the state on March 24 and the second on April 2. But the first patient was discharged from the hospital on April 12 after recovery.

So far, a total of 1,91,183 persons have been screened at the entry points to the state and altogether 296 persons tested till Wednesday.

At present, a total of 110 persons are at government quarantine centres and 212 others completed their quarantine period, as per official records of the Health department.
