2 ULFA (I) cadres nabbed at Nampong

ITANAGAR, April 4 - Security forces today arrested two cadres of the proscribed United Liberation Front of Asom (Independent), from Nampong area of Changlang district bordering Myanmar, the police said.

Acting on inputs regarding sneaking of ULFA cadres into Changlang district from Myanmar to carry out unlawful activities, the Changlang Police, along with personnel of 19 Assam Rifles and 171/CRPF, launched a joint operation under the supervision of SP Mihin Gambo, at Longvi village under the Nampong block.

On seeing the security forces personnel, the two cadres tried to retreat to the international border. But the joint team apprehended them before they could slip back into the dense forest.

On interrogation, the duo identified themselves as �SS Pvt� Jahnu Boruah (20) of Dibrugarh and �SS Pvt Chandrakanta Likharu� (26), a resident of Karbi Anglong. They revealed that they came from the ULFA (I) camp located inside Myanmar. After crossing the Indo-Myanmar border, they reached the general area of Longvi village through a forest tract on the way to Assam to carry out illegal activities.

A criminal case has been registered at the Nampong PS against the arrested duo and further investigation is on, the SP added.
