By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Dec 2 - The State Government has placed under suspension Dr Bindu Singla and nurse Bhanubala Roy of the Mohendra Mohan Choudhury Hospital, even as an inquiry into the alleged botched-up cataract surgeries, which allegedly caused loss of vision to five persons, has been ordered. Singla and Roy were part of the team which performed the surgeries.

Health Minister Dr Nazrul Islam has asked the Mission Director, National Health Mission, to conduct the inquiry to ascertain the facts and circumstances leading to the incident. He said that a departmental inquiry has also been ordered.

We are trying to find out the causes leading to the incident and fix responsibility, the Minister said on the sidelines of a function on tobacco control this afternoon.
