2 students drown near Umananda

GUWAHATI, Aug 11 � Two students, including a girl, are feared dead after they accidentally fell in to River Brahmaputra this forenoon near Umananda temple.

Niraj Thapa (18), a first year student of B Barooah College and Drabina Deka (16), a HS 1st year student of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Borjhar are still missing.

A team of river police was launched a search operation in the river following the incident.

Police sources confirmed that the duo boarded a ferry at Kacharighat for Umananda at around 8.30 am along with three of their friends and were last spotted loitering in and around the temple. �Both Niraj and Drabina were sitting on a rock when they accidentally fell,� eye-witnesses told police.

Police is questioning the other three boys who went to visit the temple along with the missing duo. Of the three boys being questioned, two are from B Barooah College, while the other studies in KVK, Borjhar.

A case was registered with the Pan Bazar police station.
