By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Feb 24 Two persons were shot dead by the personal security officer (PSO) of one Hariprasanna Hazarika, a businessman, around 1:30 am today in the citys Mathuranagar area under mysterious circumstances.

The incident reportedly took place when three persons, including the two killed, broke into Hazarikas flat at Tulsi Bhawan and one of them attacked him with a sharp weapon.

Hazarika was also attacked in 2009 by miscreants in Sivasagar, following which he was provided with a PSO.

Reacting to the attack on Hazarika, his PSO Rituparna Hazarika reportedly opened fire and killed two of the attackers, while the other person managed to flee from the scene.

The deceased have been identified as Himangsu Gogoi and Mrigangka Hazarika. Of the two deceased, Mrigangka is a suspect in a case relating to the murder of a Congress leader in Sivasagar in 2009.

Later, Hariprasanna Hazarika, who sustained injury in his left hand, was intercepted along with four other persons including a lady named Sona Saikia in a car, on the GS Road. While Hazarika was rushed to the Down Town Hospital, the other four including the driver of the vehicle and the PSO were detained for questioning.

Police said that though the cause of the incident is yet be ascertained, investigation into the incident is on.

Police said that Azhar Talukdar, the watchman of the apartment in which Hazarika was staying, when questioned informed that he heard sounds of gunshots from inside the apartment after which five persons including Hazarika got out of the apartment around 1:40 am and asked him to open the gate, to which he complied.

A senior police official when asked, said, The prima facie evidence is not conclusive enough to point the needle of suspicion at anyone at this moment. We have taken the accounts of everyone related to the case and cannot rule out any angle at this moment. Samples collected have also been sent to the forensic lab for examination.
