2 restaurants served �closure and improvement� notices

GUWAHATI, April 30 - The district food safety department of Kamrup Metro today issued 10-day closure notices to two restaurants � Nehar�s Mughlai Darbar located at Christian Basti and Emperor China located on RGB Road.

The �closure and improvement� notices were served by the officials concerned under Section 32 of the Food Safety and Standards Act 2006.

According to official sources, during inspection a team of food safety department detected low standard sanitary and hygiene arrangements at the two food entities.

Inadequate space for processing and storage, poor light in the kitchens along with ventilation and inadequate space for movement were also some other drawbacks detected during the inspection drive.

�During the drive, we found that the floors and skirted walls of the entities were not properly cleaned. The kitchens also were not free from insects, while the windows, doors and other openings were not fitted with nets or screens. Arrangements for cleaning containers, tables, working parts of machinery were not in proper condition and there was no proper drainage system as per requirement mentioned in the Act,� an official of the department said.

The official further added that during inspection they also found that workers involved in preparation and processing work were not using any appropriate apron, hand gloves and headwear and food items that were kept for sale had no covers to avoid contamination. The team also recovered huge amounts of spices which were not in usable condition as per the expiry dates mentioned in the packets.
