2 Railway engineers among 6 held for theft

DIBRUGARH, Sept 8 - In a major development, six persons, including two senior section Railway engineers were arrested by the Railway Police here after serviceable heavy duty batteries of the department were allegedly recovered from their possession.

The six individuals, including the railway engineers were allegedly involved in unlawful possession of railway properties. RPF sources said that the six are suspected in the theft of some 30 fresh functional batteries of the Railways. The engineers were arrested on September 4 while the remaining four were arrested Thursday. A case (6/18 under Section 3 (a) RP (UP) Act) was registered with the Dibrugarh RPF.

Those arrested include Section Engineers Parthajyoti Doley and Indrajeet Doley of the Electrical Division of Dibrugarh Railway Workshop, contractor Manoj Gogoi, truck owner Durlav Gogoi and battery dealers Sunil Harlalka and Vishal Harlalka.

All the arrested were subsequently interrogated. Akhtar Hussain, another alleged key accused who is also said to be a battery dealer, is reportedly evading arrest, RPF sources told The Assam Tribune.
