DHUBRI, Oct 28 - Although the construction of both Kismathasdah Model Hospital and Kacharighat Mini Public Health Centre was completed over a year back, they are yet to start functioning and have been left in an abandoned state.

Kismathasdah Model Hospital has been an ambitious project of the State government that aimed at providing people living in rural areas of Baladoba, Binnachara, Kedar, Nalia, Berbhangi, Dharmashala, Gaspara, Kahahat, Kismathasdah, Durahati, Tistarpar villages with proper medical facilities. The model hospital situated at Kismathasdah village under Kalahat GP was constructed with an amount of Rs 5.6 crore and was completed in June, 2018, informed local people, who also added that the hospital has been left in an abandoned state since the completion of its construction.

We were really hopeful that people from these rural area will get proper medical facilities, said Lakhan Chandra Roy, an advocate living in the area. We hoped that the model hospital will be useful for emergency purposes and delivery cases. But now its seems that our hopes have been dashed to the ground. This hospital is just like an ornament and for medical emergencies we need to go to Dhubri Civil Hospital, which is not only far for an emergency case, but we also have to face poor road conditions, added Roy.

Meanwhile, the Kacharighat Mini Public Health Centre at Kacharighat GP, which was constructed with the aim to help rural people from Soilmari, Dangarar, Binnachara, Debottar Hasdah Pt-II, Jhaukuri village, is also yet to function and serve the common people. Members of Gaon Panchayat informed that the Public Health Centre was constructed with an amount of Rs 1 crore on March, 2018, but they are yet to see any medical officer visiting it. It has been a long-pending demand of the people of this area for establishing a medical facility here. The construction work of the Public Health Centre started in 2016 and it got completed in March 2018. But it is yet to be functional, said Nirupam Kumar Roy. He added, Our lives have not changed and we are still dependent on the Dhubri Civil Hospital, which is almost 20 kilometres away.

When contacted, the Office of Joint Director of Health Services informed that although the construction work of the model hospital and the health centre is complete, the Public Works Department (PWD) is yet to hand them over to the State Health department.

It was informed that the electrical work in the Model Hospital is in its final stage and after the electricity connection is given, the PWD will hand over the hospital and it will then start functioning. Meanwhile, the Kacharighat Mini Public Health Centre was recently inspected by officials and they found it to be ready for functioning. Now the PWD will construct the boundary wall and hand it over to the Health department, officials informed. It was also assured that the Model Hospital will start functioning by the end of this year.
