GUWAHATI, April 28 - Two more persons in the State, including a 16-year-old girl tested positive for COVID 19 today.

A secondary contact of a Tablighi Jamaat attendee tested positive for the novel coronavirus at Goalpara.

The 61-year-old asymptomatic person was in quarantine at the Urban Health Centre and was to be released tomorrow.

His earlier four tests were negative, but unfortunately the last test came positive. We have sent him to MMCH in Guwahati for treatment. Six of his family members have been put in quarantine from today, a district official said.

Another secondary contact of the Nizamuddin Jamaat attendee tested positive during the day. The 16-year-old girl is from Bongaigaon.

The total number of COVID-19 patients in Assam now stands at 37. However, the number of active hospital cases is 9 after the discharge of 27 cured patients and the death of one.

Bongaigaon Correspondent adds: The 16-year-old girl, who tested positive, is a member of a family of six.

The family had passive contact with a COVID-19 patient of Chapar in Dhubri district. They had completed home quarantine period on April 23.

The Health department had sent their third swab samples on April 24 and the test report released today confirmed the infection only in the body of the 16-year old girl of the family and not the others, a source in the health department said.

The patient has been sent to Guwahati for better medical care and her five family members have been brought to the Bongaigaon civil hospital where they will be kept in isolation wards, the source said.

It is the first case in our district. The village has been declared as containment zone, Bongaigaon Deputy Commissioner Dr MS Lakshmi Priya said.
