2 more arrested in Silapathar case

GUWAHATI, April 8 - The Assam Police arrested two more accused for their alleged involvement in the Silapathar incident where the office of the All Assam Students Union (AASU) was attacked.

The duo after being arrested was produced before a local court at Siliguri in West Bengal which allowed two days� transit remand. After being brought to the State, both the accused are expected to be produced before the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Dhemaji tomorrow.

Sources, however, maintained that if the accused cannot reach the destination (Dhemaji) in Assam within the specified transit remand period (two days), they can be produced again at any territorial judicial magistrate in Assam for extension of transit remand.

A joint team of Assam and West Bengal Police last night arrested Gauhati High Court advocate Sahadev Das and his associate Beni Madhab Roy from an undisclosed location at Siliguri. The duo was arrested after the police team camping in the neighbouring State acted on specific inputs about their movement in the locality.

While Sahadev Das is the president of the State unit of the Nikhil Bharat Bangali Udbastu Samannay Samity, Roy is the State general secretary.
