By A correspondent

GANGTOK, May 26 - A massive landslide that occurred at Myong-Kyong, 12th Mile, Bey, Upper Dzongu, in North Sikkim on Sunday evening, swept away three kutcha houses. Two workers, Chandra Tamang (67) and his wife, who were engaged in the construction of an SPWD bridge, have been missing since the mudslip. Other neighbours managed to escape the disaster.

Officials of the Dzongu subdivisional administration, along with the local MLA, visited the site on Monday.

The bodies of the two missing workers have not been traced yet. A search operation could not be immediately undertaken due to the inclement weather conditions. The SDRF has been requisitioned by the police for the search operation today.

Eleven other houses were also damaged in the landslide. All their residents have been evacuated. The existing suspension foot bridge connecting Bey, Sakyong and Pentong villages has also been washed away, snapping communication.
