2 minor sisters rescued from traffickers

GUWAHATI, July 12 � In another case of sex trafficking from Assam, two poverty-driven teenage sisters of an interior village of Chaygaon in Kamrup district were rescued from a red-light area in Siliguri in a joint operation by Assam Police, Bachchpan Bachao Andolan (BBA), an NGO, and the local police there last night.

The victims, during preliminary stage of counselling, said more girls from Goalpara, Rangiya, Barpeta and other places of Assam have been forced into flesh trade in Siliguri.

Aged about 16 years, the girls were lured from their native place promising lucrative jobs around three months back and since then they were kept in captivity in the red-light area, informed Rakesh Senger, project director, campaigns and victims� assistance of BBA. The victims used to work in a brick kiln in Kamrup.
