BONGAIGAON/UDALGURI, Jan 18 � Indiscriminate firing by militants at a market near the Hakua river sluicegate at Bhatarmari under Bijni PS in Chirang district this evening left several persons injured, even as one dead body was recovered from the spot.
While the deceased has been identified as Hazarat Ali, two of the injured have been identified as Aminul Islam and Anjuma Begum.
Police rushed to the spot and launched an operation against the militants. The injured have been admitted to a private hospital at Bongaigaon.
On the other hand, suspected militants of the NDFB (S) gunned down a barber in Udalguri district this evening. Bikram Thakur (55), originally hailing from Bihar, was in his saloon at Ambagaon Chowk under Harisingha PS, when suspected militants shot at him from point-blank range. He died while being rushed to the Udalguri Civil Hospital.
Police and Army have launched an operation to nab the assailants.
