2 killed as State-bound train derails

GUWAHATI, Dec 7 - Two persons were killed and six others injured when the engine and two coaches of the 13248 Up Rajendra Nagar-Guwahati Capital Express derailed at Samuktala Road station in Alipurduar district of West Bengal, near the Assam border, at around 9:15 pm yesterday.

The dead have been identified as Munshi Nath (65) and Mahesh Nath (40), both hailing from Faridabad in Haryana. The injured are Parikshit Mandal (40), Pritam Mandal (16), Rupa Mandal (34) (all from Banarhat, West Bengal), Surinder Prasad (38) of Maligaon, Saha Jamal (35) of Bamardanga, Goalpara, and Indrajit Mandal (25) of Dharamari, West Bengal.

The railway authorities have ordered an inquiry into the accident.
