2 killed, 8 injured in Imphal blast

IMPHAL, May 29 � At least two non-local workers were killed while eight others including women fish vendors were injured when miscreants suspected to be underground elements exploded a powerful bomb at Singjamei Chingamkhong here on Thursday.

The incident took place at the junction market shed where the non-locals gather while women fish and vegetable vendors sell their products, around 5.20 pm this evening.

The injured persons including the women fish vendors have been sent to RIMS hospital and other health centres for treatment. One of the injured died on the way to the RIMS hospital while another succumbed to injuries in the hospital, according to police.

The deceased have been identified as Shyam Sankar Rai (38) and Arbind Rai (20), hailing from Bihar. The police has registered a case in connection with the incident and investigation is on.

Manipur Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh has strongly condemned the incident and visited the injured persons at the RIMS hospital later this evening. Ibobi said that the government will not spare the culprits involved in the incident. Terming the incident as an �inhuman and coward act�, he informed that all the police stations have been alerted to arrest the accused persons.

On September 13 last year, nine non-local labourers were killed while 10 others injured when a powerful bomb exploded in Imphal.
