2 killed, 2 hurt in rain-induced wall collapse

JORABAT, July 7 - Fate dealt a cruel blow to the family of Tula Ram Sharma as two of his children lost their lives and two other members of his family were seriously injured when the wall of the 11th Mile State Primary Animal Health Centre collapsed above his house at 11th Mile, Jorabat, under Jorabat Police Outpost around 5.20 am this morning. The wall collapse was induced by heavy heavy rains.

Nanu Sharma (12), died in her sleep inside the house. The local people with the help of Jorabat Police rescued Tula�s wife Devi Radha Sharma (35) and children Puja Sharma(14) and Bishal Sharma (10) from under the mud and debris and rushed them to the Sonapur District Civil Hospital. However, Bishal died in the hospital.

It was learnt that Tula Ram Sharma, the head of the family, had moved to Siliguri, West Bengal in search of employment three days ago and his daughter Puja had come to stay in the house yesterday from hostel.

Currently Devi and Puja who are undergoing treatment in the hospital are said to be in serious condition.

The spot of the incident was visited by the Superintendent of Police of East Kamrup Manmohan Boro, ADC Munindra Nath Ngatey, former MLA of Dispur Legislative Assembly Constituency (LAC) Akon Bora and sitting MLA of the constituency Atul Bora.

Meanwhile, the local people have alleged that the unplanned and cheap construction of the wall of the animal health centre was the reason for the incident and they have demanded a proper investigation into the case.

The Jorabat Police have registered a case and investigation is going on.

The incident has caused panic among the people of the area.
