TURA, July 29 - Two persons, suspected to be behind the kidnapping of ex-army man Premchand Rabha, were lynched yesterday afternoon by unknown people near Upper Manikganj village in North Garo Hills. The lynching took place at the same place from where they had kidnapped Rabha.
Rabha was later rescued by the police while the alleged four kidnappers managed to escape into the nearby jungles. According to police, the group of four petty criminals was into small crimes. They were recently caught stealing cattle but warned and let off after a fine paid by them and on the promise of not repeating their crimes.
However, once their involvement in the kidnapping of Rabha came to light, some unknown persons chased them. While two managed to give the slip, two were caught and beaten up brutally resulting in their death.
The police arrived at the spot after receiving information and recovered the bodies from a field.
The police have registered a case of murder and investigation into the incident is on.
The two killed have been identified as Akin Marak and Sangwan Sangma, both in their early twenties. Their bodies were handed over to their families after post mortem today.
