2 injured in Meghalaya bomb attack

By Correspondent

SHILLONG, March 2 Suspected militants hurled a crude bomb at a remote petrol pump station in Shallang, West Khasi Hills district this morning injuring two persons. Police said the suspected Garo Hills-based militants hurled the crude bomb at about 6 am today and injured the two employees at the petrol pump Amresh Kumar and Mejentis Sangma.

SP, West Khasi Hills, Sylvester Nongtynger said the two injured workers of the petrol pump were rushed to the hospital and they are now said to be stable and out of danger.

He said the attack seems to be the handiwork of militant organisations and was triggered to instil fear in the area. Shallang and its adjoining areas are rich in coal deposits and are therefore teaming with militant groups, especially those from bordering Garo Hills region.

Nongtynger said that although no militant group has claimed responsibility for the attack it is suspected that it is the handiwork of either Garo National Liberation Army or Achik Matgrik Elite.
