AGARTALA, April 29 - Police have arrested two persons � a constable and a TV anchor � for allegedly spreading rumours on social media about Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb�s family.
Islam Uddin, a constable of state police, was arrested from Dharmanagar area of North Tripura, while Saikat Tapapatra, a TV anchor cum government school teacher was nabbed from the Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport in Agartala on Sunday.
While Islam was granted bail on Sunday, Saikat was produced before a local court seeking police remand for interrogation. Police see a larger conspiracy behind spreading rumours against the Chief Minister.
�Police are investing the case with due care, keeping in mind its sensitivity. Those who had a role in spreading rumours will not be spared,� said an official of West Agartala Police Station on Monday.
On Sunday, Chief Minister�s wife Niti Deb made it clear that she did not file any divorce case as rumoured on the social media platform since Thursday. �The rumour was aimed at defaming my family publicly. It is very unfortunate and I want law to take its own course,� she said.
