2 godowns gutted at 9th Mile

JORABAT, Sept 1 - Two godowns were gutted in a fire at the 9th Mile area on the city outskirts in the wee hours today.

Though the exact extent of loss is yet to be ascertained, goods worth around Rs 1 crore were believed to have been destroyed in the fire, which broke out at the warehouses of Jain Trading Triveni Store.

However, no loss of life was reported in the incident.

The police and the fire service personnel were immediately informed after the incident came to light around 2 am.

A total of 18 fire-tenders from Assam and two from Meghalaya were pressed into service to douse the flames. The firemen battled for over three hours to bring the fire under control.

It was alleged that the Meghalaya police as well as the two fire-tenders of Meghalaya Fire and Emergency Services arrived at the spot late.
