By Biplab Kr Dey

TURA, Sept 20 Two camps allegedly belonging to the Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) were busted by the police in South Garo Hills in the early hours today. The camps located near Chokpot were said to house between 15-25 cadres.

Provisions, food, clothes were found in the makeshift camps which were dismantled by the police team. While one of the camps was vacant, the second camp located a little further housed the cadres.

The encounter took place near a place called Nokatgre. The police team was camping in the area since the past three days to flush out militants from their hideouts. However, it was only today that the team was able to locate a deserted camp near Nokatgre, near Deku, said SP, SGH, Lakador Syiem.

A senior police officer said that the two camps were located about 500 metres from each other. They were able to see our approaching Gypsy as the sentry was atop a tree. He warned the others. After an exchange of fire, the militants escaped into the jungle, he said.

The two busted camps brings the total number of camps destroyed to 15 in the ongoing Operation Hillstorm.
