JORHAT, May 17 - A class IX girl student of a well-known convent English medium school here was allegedly found hanging from the ventilator of a room of her residence at Bongalpukhuri locality under Lichubari Police Outpost here on Thursday night.
A police source said that the girl was reportedly found hanging from the ventilator of a room above the door at her residence by her family members last night and immediately rushed to a private hospital where she was declared brought-dead.
Later, a police team arrived at her residence after coming to know about the incident. Her body was sent for post mortem to be done at the Jorhat Medical College and Hospital.
Stating that investigation was on in the case, the source said that from preliminary investigation the incident seems to be a case of suicide. The source added that the post mortem report could throw more light in the case.
A source from her school said that the student was the captain of her class and was good in her studies.
She attended school yesterday and even went to a private tuition class in the late afternoon, the source said, adding no abnormalities were seen in the behaviour of the deceased girl in recent times.
Meanwhile, a girl HSLC examination candidate of this year, who was unsuccessful in passing the examinations, reportedly committed suicide by hanging herself at her house at Puranimati Tini-Ali outskirts under Pulibor Police Station here on Wednesday night.
A police source said that from preliminary investigation the incident appears to be a case of suicide. The post mortem report is awaited and police would take note of the findings of the report and act accordingly, the source informed.
